Milestones of MCS

1961  MCS begins operation at the Marion Avenue Grace Brethren Church with 35 students and
           three faculty members.

1963   The first school building is constructed after a gift of 40 acres on Logan Road.

1969   Enrollment climbs over 200 and the first building expansion is completed.

1971   The second building expansion includes high school classrooms and the gym for $450K.

1972   The first graduating class of 19 seniors.

1973   The third building expansion for the elementary grades.

1975   MCS receives its charter from the State of Ohio.

1979   MCS launches one of the first high school radio stations in the country, WVMC.

1979   The chapel is added to the high school building.

1981  MCS sets the world record for washed cars in 9 hours; raising money to begin a
           Christian school in the Dominican Republic that is still in operation today.

1989   Enrollment reached its highest peak at 715.

1992  Periods of revival begin through the 90’s encouraging unparalleled displays of student
           faith.

2000  The boy’s varsity soccer team becomes the first MCS team in any sport to play in the
           OHSAA  Final Four.

2001   MCS introduces the first induction of the Hall of Flames.

2006  EdChoice program is introduced by the State of Ohio; enrollment climbs over 150
           students over the next two years.

2006  Board announces plans for the new multi-million dollar early childhood addition at the
          Vision Banquet.

2006  Modular classroom units were purchased to temporarily accommodate increased
           enrollment

2007   MCS agrees to build $4 million early childhood wing and conducts groundbreaking
             ceremony in the spring.  Mecurio Construction is awarded the job.

2007   MCS purchases the vacated Ranchwood School building in the summer to provide
            immediate classroom space for the elementary.  Teachers are moved into classrooms
            the day before school begins that fall.

2008   The new early childhood wing is opened for classes in the fall.  MCS property map is
            redesigned as a result of the new addition.

2010   Lights are installed on the varsity soccer field and the first game under the lights was
            played by the alumni in August.

2011   The HS gym floor is completely redesigned and the court is named in memory of
            Keith Clark.

2011   MCS celebrates its 50th year anniversary, 1961-2011.  A time capsule in the HS gym
            was opened after 40 years and the opening day was marked with celebrations and
            pictures.  A special banquet is held in the fall to commemorate 50 years of school
            history and honor the charter employees of MCS.

2011   The Ranchwood School property, now vacant, is sold to a local charter school.

2011    MCS eliminates the short-term loan on the early childhood wing by paying the final
            payment to Chase Bank in December.  In total, the Lord provided $1.2 million for MCS
            over three years.

2012    A new time capsule is placed in the HS gym wall behind the cornerstone.

2014   MCS was named "One of the 50 Best Christian High Schools in America" by the BestSchools.org

2014   The Varsity Boys Soccer Team won the school's first ever State Championship in November.  MCS defeated Grandview Heights in             overtime, 4-3, at the Crew Stadium in Columbus.  This was the second straight trip to the State Finals for MCS and the fourth             appearance in the Final Four. 

 

2016   MCS creates a new comprehensive K-12 STEM program to focus on job market skills in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering,             and Math. 

2019    MCS develops one of the first PreK-12 Student Discipleship Plans for Christian schooling; defining and documenting the spiritual              formation process at MCS.

2020    After 40 years of operation, WVMC is sold to another Christian radio ministry, Shine FM. 

2020    A new Media Production Department is created to expand student skills in the media industry beyond radio broadcasting and service              the school’s advancement efforts.
