MCS Core Value - In Pursuit of Spiritual Formation

Vision Statement

Mansfield Christian School is committed to training future generations to live a life consistent with a Biblical worldview. Our desire is to provide students with an environment that emphasizes academic excellence with the godly wisdom necessary to impact their culture for the glory of Jesus Christ.

Overview of Spiritual Formation

Producing spiritual disciples and leaders of tomorrow requires more than just placing children from Christian homes into Christian schools and feeding them a diet of Scripture memory, Bible classes, chapels, and Christian worldview. Spiritual formation is a deep and complex endeavor, yet throughout Scripture believers are called to this challenge.

We want each child to become more fully conformed and united to Christ so that when they leave, they have a mature personal relationship with the Savior and are fully capable of living a successful life for God’s glory and according to His purposes.

Each school division will spend time reflecting upon what is appropriate at their level to address spiritual formation and development. We must look at the real issues students face, address conformity versus maturity, attend to sins of the heart, and “…inspire our students to pursue Jesus more often than we track their transgressions” (Wenzel, 2009). We must constantly teach and model the virtues of Scripture (II Peter 1:5-9) that make us effective and productive in our knowledge of Christ.

Clearly the school alone cannot carry out this role. Successful Christian schools have engaged parents that assist in the spiritual formation of each child. Ken Smitherman (ACSI), asked these questions of parents: Is regular church attendance and participation a way of life in your family? Do you engage in times of family worship and prayer as a regular activity in your home? Do you have dinner conversations that welcome discussions of a spiritual nature? The patterns that we establish both in our families and at our Christian school will make a statement either for or against the productive spiritual formation of our children. May this be our fervent prayer and work at MCS!

“Thank you to the wonderful faculty and staff that make MCS such a fantastic environment…we are truly blessed to be a part of an institution that is committed to reflecting Christ in all they do.”
