While Shepherds Watched centers around the story of a shepherd named Omer and his rebellious son, Benjamin, The initial conflict between them points out the two main themes of the story: 1) God sent His Son as the Lamb of God to pay the price for sin; and  2) Even in difficult times, God is still in control. The story ends with them at the manger seeing Christ just after He was born.
