EdChoice Scholarship at MCS
Families across Ohio are discovering that a private, Christ-centered education is within reach thanks to the EdChoice Scholarship. At Mansfield Christian School, this state-funded program helps reduce the financial burden of tuition, making it easier for parents to choose a school that aligns with their values and priorities. Whether you’re exploring options for kindergarten or high school, MCS is here to guide you through every step of the EdChoice process.
What Is the EdChoice Scholarship?
The EdChoice Scholarship, offered by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, helps qualifying families pay tuition at participating private schools. The program gives Ohio families another option when choosing a school for their child.
There are two pathways into the EdChoice Scholarship program:
- Traditional EdChoice: For students who meet one of the state’s Traditional EdChoice eligibility criteria.
- EdChoice Expansion: Available based on household income for Ohio students who do not qualify for Traditional EdChoice.
MCS participates in both programs.
Who Is Eligible?
They are assigned to or attending a public school on Ohio’s EdChoice designated list.
They’re currently enrolled in a school that qualifies under EdChoice.
They would otherwise attend an EdChoice school based on your home address.
They have a sibling who received a Traditional EdChoice Scholarship last year.
They previously received an Autism or Jon Peterson Scholarship but no longer need special education services.
They are a foster child or live in a certified foster home.
They live with a legal guardian, custodian, or are in kinship care (placed with a relative).
They’ve lived in someone else’s household for 45+ consecutive days and would have been considered homeless otherwise.
They live with another student who meets the criteria above for at least 45 consecutive days.
📝 You only need to meet one of these criteria to be eligible.
If your child does not qualify for Traditional EdChoice, EdChoice Expansion is available based on household income. The maximum scholarship amount is $6,166 for grades K-8 and $8,408 for grades 9-12.
Award amounts:
- Households at or below 450% of the Federal Poverty Level receive the maximum scholarship amount.
- At 451% of the Federal Poverty Level and above, the scholarship amount is reduced based on household income.
Families at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level qualify for low-income status and do not have to pay tuition beyond the scholarship amount. Other school fees may still apply.
How Much Could You Receive?
Every family’s situation is different, and so is the amount they may actually pay for private school.
Ohio’s EdChoice Scholarship programs can provide thousands of dollars per student, but EdChoice may only be part of the financial help available to your family. Other scholarships, discounts, and financial aid can also lower your total tuition cost.
